Summary

Randy and Nicole are driving over to his parents house as they discuss the days events. Crystal and Preach are visiting and Nicole is worried that they are neglecting their guests.

During the dinner conversation Ryan brings up how Randy has grown into managing Clark Construction. Ryan then brings up the fact that Clark Plywood will need capable management after he retires, that Steve Augsberg is fully capable at running things, however he will probably retire not long after Ryan does. At one time Ryan thought that Joel could run it, but not now - Joel is out.

Ryan then reveals that sooner or later Randy will be inheriting a major share of Clark Plywood - but he wants to swap some stock around soon so that if something happens to him Randy ends up with a majority of Clark Plywood.

During the rest of the conversation Ryan explains that the situation with Clark Plywood is very different than Clark Construction, as Randy will only be providing oversight, not actively managing it. Randy also learns that Clark Plywood is on purpose capital asset rich and cash poor to keep taxes down. Randy realizes that the more that he knows about Clark Plywood, the better it will be in the long run.

Later, at home, Nicole comments to Randy that she was worried about the new reality... that she knows him, and that he will jump in and spend all of his time trying to learn everything yesterday. She reminds him that we have a child on the way, and that’s going to require his attention, not the plant. She then says that he has poor time management skills and that she will have to fight with him (Randy) about it.

On a change of subject Nicole comments that their house has considerable lakefront, and it was a shame to not have a boat, preferably a sailboat. Randy says that he knows next to nothing about boats, especially sailboats. Nicole says to just ask Nellie - she may be old but I’ll bet she’s forgotten more about sailing than either of us would ever be able to learn. Randy agrees.

The chapter closes with Nicole commenting that they hadn't decided on a boys name, and what did Randy think of ‘Brent’? The discussion goes back and forth, and closes with Randy saying ...but I kind of like the idea of Brent Wayne Clark.
