Nellie Fedewa is a Spearfish Lake resident. In January 2004, Randy Clark cleared her driveway after a heavy snowfall.HC4

She and her late husband Harold Fedewa took a trip through the Grand Canyon with Canyon Tours, sometime around or before 1974.[1]

Nellie was taught to fly by her father, a World War I aviator and a US Army Air Corps test pilot, when she was a teenager. She got her pilot license, including commercial and instructor endorsements, in the late 1930s. When World War II broke out, she started teaching pilots for the US Army Air Corps. Later in the war, she became a WASP and ferried military aircraft.

She married Harold, who also served in the Air Corps in WWII. They got into sailing, and sailed around the world twice, the first time in the 1950s and again in the 1970s.

They had two children, Jack and Alice.

In 1998, Harold died, and Nellie continued to live alone in Spearfish Lake.HC5
