Summary
Due to the jet lag it was around 10AM when Randy was awake, functional, and walked into the kitchen to find Nicole having a cup of coffee with Blake Walworth. Having him around eased Randy's mind considerably. Blake asked for a risk assessment, and Randy's response was moderate to serious, anywhere from right-now onward, and that he'd rather overestimate the risk than minimize it.
Randy had to go to work. Randy and Nicole first dropped off Ryan's Chrysler at his house, then Nicole back at their house, then Randy headed to the office.
Regina was happy to see Randy as she didn't expect him back for several days. She brought him up to date, then he shared Rachel's situation and asked did Regina need a helper? The answer was yes, but that she'd need a while to figure out how to divide the work into two sections. Randy asked her to do that, stated it wouldn't start for a few days at the earliest, and that one goal was to make it useful work, not obvious "make-work".
With that, Randy started on the stack of paperwork on his desk. His first item was to call the Newtons and give them a status report - the foundations were nearly complete, and the next step was raising the stringers for the tower. The Newtons asked if they could be there for that part, and Randy said sure, but that they'd have to stay back and out of the construction supervisors way.
Randy worked his way through the rest of the morning and went home for lunch - at which point he decided to take the rest of the day off. He found Nicole, Nellie, Rachel, Jared, and Blake watching the crew install the new boat dock.
They all headed into the house for lunch. During the conversation Joel kicked in the back door and came storming into the kitchen. Shortly later Joel was on the floor with a broken arm, broken collarbone, separated shoulder, and more. The police were called.
A short time later Harry Novato, and Charlie Wexler showed up. Randy informed him that Joel had broken in and tried to beat up on his wife, my sister...And I will press charges. Wexler rolled him over, cuffed him, read him his rights and patted him down, finding a .32 caliber pistol. Novato listed the charges so far... Breaking and entering, aggravated assault, and carrying a firearm, without a Michigan concealed carry permit, and in a state where 'One with a gun gets you two' .
Randy commented Mom isn’t home, and I’ll bet Dad is over at the plant. What if he went to their house, first?... Novato commented that they'd transport Joel to the jail, book him, have Shovelhead take a look at him, then call Ryan and have him meet Charlie at his house... Maybe we can get another charge to hang on this joker.
The chapter ends with Joel screaming that Randy was gonna kill me!, and Harry replying Oh, I doubt he’d do that... I know Randy too well. He’d never do something like that unless he really felt he had a need to. Just be glad he called us.
