Summary
Joel Lancaster was in a really bad mood as he drove home - his business dealings were falling apart and he really needed the cash value of Rachel's inheritance to buy himself some time. When he got home, he found Rachel and her clothes were gone, as were Jared, his clothing and toys. Then he found a stack of photos of himself and a prostitute he had been with a few days earlier.
Meanwhile, Ryan, Randy, Rachel and Jared were on an eastbound flight. Due to the departure time, the en-route time and the time zones it was after one in the morning before Randy drove Ryan's car into Spearfish Lake from Camden. He had plans on dropping Rachel and Jared off and get them settled in their new rooms without waking Nicole up, and then taking his father home. As he pulled into his driveway he found the sailboat on it's trailer sitting in the driveway, still hooked up to his truck. Randy was surprised, and had to explain the sailboat purchase situation to Rachel, who was amazed at the comparison of how Randy treats and trusts Nicole - she had just spent thousands of dollars on a sailboat and a dock - versus how Joel treats her and doesn't trust her to even go food shopping alone. About that time the yard lights went on and Nicole greeted them. Nicole gave Randy the background on the sailboat, and the fact that a new dock was going in in the morning. Then Nicole suggested that Randy take Ryan home and Nicole will get Rachel and Jared settled in, someone can return Ryan's car in the morning.
When Randy gets back home he joins Nicole in bed and before they go to sleep he quietly summarizes what happened in San Jose, plus briefs her on the fact that Joel may come after Rachel and Jared. In short, the guns will be loaded and available, plus one of Randy's martial arts friends will be around.
Nicole doesn't like the situation, and Randy doesn't either.
