Spearfish Lake House was a four-unit apartment building, actually a converted large Victorian house, in Hawthorne a couple blocks off the Southern Michigan University campus. It contained a two-bedroom apartment and three one-bedroom apartments.

It had a big, wide set of steps leading up to a classic Midwestern front porch that went the width of the picturesque old Victorian building.SLH37

Susan McMahon and Mizuki Takashita had looked at renting an apartment there but it was too expensive. The owner wanted to sell the house and the figures looked favorable to Susan.SU27 Her parents helped her buy it and it worked out that the rent from three and a half apartments covered the repayments, utilities and maintenance as well as providing Susan money for summer vacations in Europe.SLH4

When Susan graduated she sold it to Cody and Jan Archer, who lived in one of the upstairs apartments.SLH4

From August 2011 the two-bedroom apartment was rented by the quartet of Jack Erikson, Vixen Hvalchek, Alan Jahnke and Summer Trevetheck and the one-bedroom apartment upstairs by Nancy Halifax, all from Spearfish Lake.

It got the name the Spearfish Lake House in 2011 when Susan rented the vacant apartment meaning all would be occupied by people from Spearfish Lake.

Autumn Trevetheck, Howie Erikson, Jared Wooten and Bree Gravengood stopped for the night after Bree's Diamond distance flight in summer 2012 while Jack and Vixen in Indiana.RFW37
