Summary

Jim and Scooter join the trip at Phantom after talking on the way down about something unspecified that they were thinking of doing; the rest of the crew includes Barbie, Michelle, and Jerry (Kelly had let him fill in for this one trip). After they got through "Adrenaline Alley" (the set of four rapids ending with Crystal) in a cold rain, Scooter pulls in at the Baseball Man beach and they start a burner to make some hot drinks. She and Jim climb to the water pocket, agree to go ahead with their plans, and even though the weather was terrible, make love.

After one more day of cold rain, the weather improves; everyone is able to dry out their gear, and the rest of the trip is enjoyable. Dave and Mary were at Diamond Creek Wash to say goodbye to the passengers who had started the trip with them. On the way to Flagstaff, Scooter tells Dave and Mary that they can use the house so they won't have to bunk in their usual quarters in the barn. Since this is the last trip of the season, they put off unloading until the next day, and stop by the office.

Karin tells them that when Crystal couldn't reach Myleigh, she called Randy who told them that Myleigh and Trey were getting married in Spearfish Lake on the 29th of December. She said he was seriously discouraged and hurt because he had gotten the impression that his sailing trip in the Bahamas was going to be displaced by Crystal and Noah using the entire trip as their honeymoon. Nicole had called back the next day and pleaded with Karin to try to salvage something for Randy; she told her "the only reason he didn't punch a hole in his office wall is that he's a realist; he knows it's cinder block."

Scooter calls Randy and explains that the deal really was that Crystal and Noah would only be on the boat for two weeks; Scooter, Jim, Michelle, and maybe Dave and Mary would be using the other two weeks, and that they were counting on him to join them. He was considerably happier when they hung up, after agreeing that the schedules and details would be worked out when they got together for the wedding.
