Summary
At the probation office in the courthouse Kent Derbyshire reminded Frenchy that probation meant he didn't get the benefit of any doubt. He said that Frenchy wouldn't be able to join the GED program until May.
Frenchy went to Clark Plywood hoping for a job because they had a reputation of being good to football players. Mr. Hotchkiss said that no longer applied, and he couldn't offer new jobs until people who had been laid off were brought back. He did suggest Sven Stromsen might take Frenchy on at minimum wage for hard work out in the woods.
Frenchy was walking home about the time school let out. Alan Jahnke's friends watched and videotaped as he confronted and goaded Frenchy. Deciding he didn't want to go back to jail Frenchy turned and ran away, chased by their jeers.
