Sven Stromsen was a big muscular man who could have been forty or sixty. His face was worn, lined, and even at a distance it was easy to see that he had been in a fight or two over the years.^OC6

He had been kicked out of school for violence, but was now good friends with a couple of those he'd beaten, including Dave Hotchkiss. He told Frenchy LeDroit that school stuff was kid stuff and had to be left behind when you left school.^OC6

He was an independent contractor mostly working for Clark Plywood cleaning up areas of the woods that had been harvested. Collecting and selling branches suitable for firewood, chipping smaller stuff and delivering it to the Plywood plant or spreading it on the ground.^OC8

He gave Frenchy a job at minimum wage, clearing the slash left behind when trees had been harvested. He helped and supported Frenchy and was more of a father than Frenchy's own father in the first month.^OC13

He loaned Frenchy money to buy a truck to use to deliver bundles of firewood at favourable terms.^OC17

When Frenchy finally had enough and walked out of his parents' house Sven advised him to get the police to ensure collecting his stuff went peacefully, as well as helping him.^OC19

When Frenchy's truck got destroyed in a house fire he sorted out the insurance and helped Frenchy get another truck.^OC25

He told Dave Hotchkiss and Clint Bork that Frenchy was a good worker able to take responsibility, and was glad when Clint offered Frenchy a job at better pay.^OC27
