Summary

The Newton house on Windmill Island was almost complete. From a distance it looked like a storybook house.

The hot air balloon allowed the Newtons, a couple of riggers, and some people from the windmill machinery fabrication company to mount the hub, blades and fantail across two morning work sessions. They had to quit when the morning breeze was too much for the balloon. As soon as the final mechanical parts of the windmill were installed they let the first wind slowly swing the fantail into the wind. They released the brake on the sails and they started to spin. The DC generator pushed amps into the batteries, the output from the batteries was run through an inverter produced usable AC power. For the rest of the project the trailered diesel generators that had been brought over on the raft were silent and the Clark Construction power tools were being run by wind power.

A month later the house was completed to the point that the Newtons decided to hold an open house for the Clark Construction crew, their friends and families, and anyone else involved in the building of their unique, isolated house. Nicole, Rachel, and Jared rode the raft to the island and joined Randy there. Dave and Stacy, giddy with excitement about their dream house, waited at the front door to greet them. Jim Wooten, the only Clark Construction employee who had been on the project from start to finish had been pressed into service as a tour guide. Jim led them through the house, pointing out some of its unique features. The tour finished on the catwalk around the base of the tower, and they remained on the catwalk for a few minutes after Jim excused himself to go meet another raftload of people and do the tour again.

Rachel commented that this tour caps off an interesting day, that she had a call from Pat Roberts, the attorney handling the divorce on Joel’s side, and that for several reasons she was going to get nothing out of the divorce.

She also said that she wants to have her own place as she is afraid that she's wearing out her welcome but that she has no idea what she would do for money. Randy comments that she needs to talk to their father Ryan, as she still has the timber land as an asset, and it ought to be possible to work out some kind of a deal against it.

This brings about a discussion about a short vacation trip after Christmas which drifts off into a discussion about a big family Christmas.

They descended off the tower catwalk and walked into the main room of the house where they hung around for the next couple hours, talking with other visitors about the house and more, but as the day grew short they decided to head back to town. When they got back to the house they decide to hop in the hot tub. In the middle of the soak the phone rang, and a little while later Myleigh and Trey joined them in the tub. After a summary of their day at the Windmill House the topic shifted to the fact that Myleigh and Trey were asking a favor - they are buying a larger house, and wanted Randy to ask Don to inspect it as soon as convenient - there is a window of time as they want to be in the new house before winter closes in.

Nicole asks what the rush, and after some weasel-wording they discover that Myleigh is pregnant, with their first child due about mid-March.
