Summary
It took a while to settle into having a baby in the house, and the sailboat pretty much slipped Randys mind. Little Brent slept through the night about half the time right from the beginning. After Randy went back to work Myleigh and Randy’s mother often dropped in after school. Nicole reported that the visitors helped the day go more quickly.
Construction season was now in full swing. Several jobs were under way including the pellet plant, and the Three Pines lodge expansion. The contract on the Newton house was signed and the next day saw the raft assembled on site at Chandler Lake. It took digging out a slip for the raft to allow it to float a heavy load - like the backhoe - but it got done. Serious construction was under way on the island as the raft and some outboard engine powered rowboats transported materials and workers.
Randy visited all of the Clark Construction jobs - including the Windmill Island site - a couple of times a week. One day Randy was out on site watching the concrete crew finish the final four concrete piers when his cell phone went off. His father reported that Scott Brayton had called with the news that they had a hidden camera in the motel room yesterday at noon, and they got him in bed with this hooker...the pictures (are) everything we hoped for. The conversation ended with Randy and Ryan planning on flying to San Jose the following week. A few minutes later Randy was paddling his kayak back to the mainland. Once he was in the truck he headed for the office to talk with Regina and Carlos.
The next day Randy and his parents drove down to Arvada Center, brought Ruth up to date, and made plans for the following week - fly out to San Jose on Monday morning, meet with the detectives, and then explain what we know to Rachel after Joel goes to work on Tuesday. We’re hoping to convince her to come home with us where we can protect Jared and her better than we can out there, but we think it’s going to take all of us to convince her."
