Summary
Randy goes to work early to catch up from yesterday, and in preparation to spend the afternoon bringing Nicole and baby Brent home from the hospital. He finds the Newton house estimates almost complete. The construction of the Newton house would be different as all of the people, tools and materials would have to be brought over via raft. There was no way to bring a loaded concrete truck over, so they would have to use the bagged premix concrete for the footings and foundation. The concrete work would require extra people that didn’t need to be highly skilled - probably college students that were on summer break. When Carlos arrived they discussed getting the Newton estimate off to them for signature plus the fact that Randy would probably not be around for a few days once Nicole and the baby were home.
Randy and Carlos discussed the logistics of the Newton house construction - and the fact that the raft needed to be built first, then used to transport a backhoe to the island. But everything depended on a signed estimate and contract, so completing the estimate was the first thing done that morning, along with planning the week. However the Newton house was not the only project, so overall, it looked like a busy summer.
Mid morning came and Randy drove over to the pellet plant site where he talked with Ray Evernham, the excavating supervisor. His next stop was Clark Plywood and his fathers office where he discussed the pellet plant, Rachel, Nicole and the baby. In the middle of the conversation, Randy’s cell phone rang, and Nicole informed him that she and Brent were released and would be ready by the time he arrived.
He swapped vehicles at home and started the long drive to Camden. As he passed through Moffat he saw a sailboat with a "For Sale" sign on it, and made a mental note to point it out to Nicole on the way home. As he drove he mused about his and Nicole's future... When he walked into Nicole’s hospital room he found them ready to go. As they drove home they discussed a number of topics including the sailboat. When they reached that point they stopped and looked at it, and decided it was worth following up on. Randy wrote down the phone number from the For Sale sign.
