Summary
Heather writes a status e-mail to the Defenders of Gaea giving them a status report. Kirsten wasn't helpful when interviewed, though Mike had written a nice story about her and her project in the Spearfish Lake Record-Herald.
Heather doesn't want to stay in Spearfish Lake and hopes that Dale McMullen will pull her out, though the response is for her to stay. As Pam has returned to classes, John is Heather's only friend in Spearfish Lake.
Josh and Danny are talking in the locker room after Josh has scored in a game. They get to talking about Marsha and Amy, and meeting up with them again.
Mike is out with an 8-dog team, returning to Mark's as the light fades. As they put the dogs back in the yard they chat a little.
Mark is going to a meeting for the Toivo Expedition tomorrow night so Mike offers to feed the dogs.
Mike has tickets for Mark and Jackie to go to the Halloween party, but Mark is unsure.
(The chapter doesn't mention it specifically, but it's the party that's held in the Commons building at the West Turtle Lake Club)
At the meeting for the Toivo Expedition, the only new thing is that Gil has been sent some high quality aerial photos of the area from an anonymous source. "Would you believe it if I said they showed up in the mailbox one day, with no postmark and no return address?" Gil said.
After the meeting the talk turns to the Halloween party, and the others urge Mark to attend.
