Heather Sanford is in 1987 a staff member of Defenders of Gaea (she has a special talent) and is a true beliver in the cause. She is sent to Spearfish Lake to look after the interest of a Gibson's Water Snake.
In the process she alienates many of the locals with her opposition to deer hunting and dog sled racing, becomes disillusioned with the Defenders and with assistance from John Pacobel exposes the fraudulent actions of Harris Harper and Dale McMullen.BAR7120
