Summary
The retelling of the next few years goes quickly. Shae's parents learn of Denis's secret at graduation. At this point, the two good friends head in different directions. Shae gets a job at a TV station in Greenville, South Carolina, while Eve does graduate work at Syracuse.
The flashback picks up at the start of Eve's second year at Syracuse, when she looks at changing her newly assigned roommate. She overhears a hysterical complaint from another woman, upset to discover her assigned roommate is a transexual. Eve is willing to change and is good at calming both the complainer and subsequently, her new roommate. She doesn't divulge her own status as quickly, but drops hints as Cheryl calms down. When Eve describes her friend Shae, there is shock to discover that her new roommate Cheryl is actually Paul McClellan, her old friend and Woodstock High School Prom Date!
