Barb is a transgender bookkeeper that helps at Dress to Desire. She isn't a counselor, but more of a sounding board that helps Denis Riley understand what the process and future might be like. "Don't do it." is her first advice.

Barb is not part of the scene, preferring to be stealthed. She is desribed at "a tall, dark-haired woman dressed in a business suit, mid-thirties at a guess."^GM9

"Barb" is implied to not be her real name. She had a family as a man before switching. She was estranged from her parents and siblings, but as of 1998 has been reunited with her son and become a proud grandparent.^GM19
