Summary

Ryan wound up the story telling what happened to the other children he'd mentioned:

Betsy Toivo was given frequent sauna and massage and ended up with no paralysis.

Tommy Perkins spent months in a wooden lung and needed crutches to get around afterwards.

Alice Bell spent most of the rest of her high school career in a wheelchair and needed supports to walk. After she moved away she married a man who was also a polio victim.

Gail Saunders graduated high school as class valedictorian. Garth Matson paid for her to go to college. She became a teacher in Spearfish Lake where she married Jerry Gleason. She had to give up teaching in her fifties because of 'post polio syndrome'.
