Summary
Mike has been keeping a low profile for a couple of weeks after the council meeting, but goes to have breakfast at the Spearfish Lake Cafe. He tells George that the book about the Warsaw fire will be useful as Christmas presents this year.
Ryan is getting hassled about the sacking of Don Kutzley, and Mike supports Ryan.
Mark tries to change the subject by asking about his idea, but although Jack Musgrave has investigated the idea, they haven't given Ryan a cost yet.
The city has been given an extra year by the EPA, taking the time pressure off them.
The Fish and Wildlife service might be amenable to lifting the Area of Critical Interest, but they think they will get sued by the Defenders of Gaea. Ryan thinks that the city will sue if the Defenders do.
Jackie & Kirsten are discussing Christmas presents whilst making dog booties for Mike & Mark, though Kirsten tells Jackie that Tiffany will be disappointed that she doesn't get a dog team & sled.
Josh is excitedly telling Danny about running Mark's team for him, though Danny isn't that interested. They discuss Amy and Marsha Ashtenfelter, Danny is worried about how things will go in Athens, Josh comments that Danny could do worse (compare Square One!).
Heather is still in Spearfish Lake, but is bitter and depressed, as since the council meeting she is now persona non grata in much of the town. She decides to go to Albany River to stock up on alcohol for the Christmas break.
Jennifer and Blake have an early Christmas, as she's doing a show, but the presents are a preparation for her move back to Spearfish Lake.
Mike's alone in the office when Mark rings up to say that he's got a telephone job out of town, and he's going by dog sled. Mike can't go, and knows that Danny & Josh have gone to Albany River, so Mark harnesses up all 10 dogs to a sled with the help of Tiffany, and sets off for the repair work.
On the way home he's flagged down by someone whose car is stuck in a snow drift, which he gets the dogs to pull out. It's Heather, who then gives Mark a lecture on exploiting poor helpless dogs, so Mark lets the dogs pull the car into another drift & leaves.
