Summary
Realizing that it will be a large meeting, Don gets Harry to move the fire trucks out of the fire hall for the meeting, and chairs are set up.
Mike & Kirsten arrive, and Mike chats to Ryan, Ray, Don and Jack before the meeting to find that they are expecting a bill of around $5 million. When Hjalmer arrives the meeting starts, with Harold & Leroy acting as bouncers.
Ryan gets Don to recap the situations, then opens the discussion to questions, starting with Helen. The questions get heated and drag on until Heather stands up and introduces herself, and claims that the separation project is illegal under the Endangered Species Act.
No-one really follows what she is saying, but Ryan takes the opportunity to table the motion to build the sewer separation, adjourns the public meeting, and arrange a meeting with her and representatives of the city council.
As Josh, Amy, Danny and Marsha drive back from Albany River they are talking about football and dogs, then park. After a while they decide to go for a late night swim.
Heather takes Pam with her to meet with the council to explain what she knows of the situation. It's the first time anyone has really heard about the Gibson's Water Snake, and Mike is surprised when he realises that it's the snake that shocked Kirsten.
The chapter ends as Pam starts to explain why the sewer separation would affect the snake.
