Jake Lewis is the primary male character in the book Winchester Harbor, Book One of the Full Sails Series. Posting of the 36 chapters started on April 15, 2013 and completed on July 5, 2013.
His parents are Bob and Helen Lewis. He is the second of four children with an older sister Carolyn and two younger sisters Lisa and Julie. At the start of the book his cheating almost-fiancee is Brittany Mecham.
He leaves the Navy at about age 22 as a Petty Officer Third Class, having spent at least a year of his four years of enlisted time on the USS John F. Kennedy and 18 months on the USS Morton.
After a big argument with his family Jake leaves, wanders and lands at a combination marina / snack bar / motel / fuel dock named the Channel Stop where he does a good deed and repairs the power plug on the snack bar's french fry cooker. The Channel Stop is located at Winchester Harbor and is owned by Barb deRuyter, who employs Debby Jeppsen as a cook. Barb's daughters Susie and Annette help out during the summer vacations from college. One of the regular customers is Nate Kunkle, who along with his daughter Rachel, runs the Chinook III, a charter fishing boat. Rachel has a brother Mike, but in Chapter 35 she reveals that he's her half-brother. There's a story in that...
Jake has several adventures delivering boats for Nate, including a sailboat named the Mary Sue and a trawler named the Harvest Time. He purchases a partially assembled Parabellum 21, a small, trailerable sailboat kit and with Nate's help finishes the construction of it.WH16, WH17, and WH18 Rachel names it the Pixie. Jake and Rachel have a lot of fun with it.
Chapter 36 (the final chapter) summarizes Rachel and Jake's wedding, and their children, a son that they name Ron and a daughter Amanda (unnamed in the first book).
Chapter 36 has another surprise - in Jake and Brittany's only night togetherWH24 she "caught" and nine months later had a son by Jake, named Matthew. All along, her husband Adam thinks it's his until Matt develops leukemia and the bone marrow transplant tests show that Adam is a bad genetic match. Brittany shows up at the Channel Stop and asks Jake to get tested for a bone marrow transplant. Jake is a good match, the transplant takes place, is a success and pushes Matt into remission. Matt's leukemia-in-remission is a major plot device in the book Blanche Tickle Girl, the second book of the Full Sails Series.
