Summary
Randy was on his way within a few minutes, drives a few blocks, pulls into a fast food restaurant and uses his cellphone to call his father. He summarizes his conversation with Rachel quickly, and it's all bad. They discuss it, and Randy decided to find some lunch. He accidentally stumbles across Joel and a blonde lady sitting in a booth across the room of the Burger King restaurant. He's not noticed, ducks out, gets in his car, and waits until they leave. He carefully tails them to a local motel.
Randy pulls into a Taco Bell restaurant where he can watch the motel and has lunch while he waits. About 40 minutes later he watches Joel and the blonde leave the motel. He calls his father on the cellphone with You’re not going to guess what I just saw. A quick discussion results in a decision to hire a private investigator. Ryan says ... Have them bill me on this, but have them get solid, irrefutable evidence. And keep me informed.
Two hours later Randy had engaged Scott Brayton of Dunstein, Brayton, and Howell Investigations.
The chapter closes with Scott telling Randy to ...go take a look at graders or whatever it was you were going to do, and don’t do anything else that would alert Joel that you’re on to him. That means stay away from him, and don’t do anything that would let him know you’ve been out here.
