The Clark girls and their husbands and kids will arrive later that night. The Griswolds will stay with Randy and Nicole. They will all have family dinners together for the next couple nights, instead of a big funeral dinner.
Part of the story of how Ruth and Dave ended up together is explained and as the evening got late, things moved back to Hannegan's Cove. The kids settled in bed, giving the adults a chance to talk with Ruth teasing her brother about how kids will change his life. There is talk about the burden of inheritance and then Dave told a story of wacko environmentalists. In all the evening turned into several hours of very pleasant conversation.
Everybody rose early the next morning. They prepare to head over to the parent's house, although dislike of Joel is spoken aloud. They make tentative plans for Ruth to get Rachel away from the house for a private talk.
