Summary

Garth took the article he'd found to the hospital to ask Herman Luce if he thought it would work. He then took it to Brent Clark to ask him to make one.

Donna Clark phoned the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and spoke to Basil O'Connor asking for the Salk vaccine to be sent.

Garth Spoke to Dan Evachevski and then Wayne Clark about the need to build a ventilator. Wayne suggested Joe Paulsen could also help.

Phil Gravengood saw cumulus clouds which told him thunderstorms were around. He re-fuelled at Cedar Rapids on his way to collect the gamma glubulin from Kansas City.

Herman and Penny Luce thought Betsy Toivo would eventually recover, though probably not fully. They couldn't assess Alice Bell because she was unconscious. Gail Saunders was screaming with pain and it seemed her breathing was slowly getting worse, they wondered whether she'd need a respirator.

Mike and Ruth Rathburn got to the hospital in Madison to see Bob in the iron lung before he died. Jim Blanchard drove them home and then called a meeting of the parents of the other boys on the trip. They decided to bring them all home.
