Summary
Eve's insistence on being feminine and dressing nicely was having a similar effect on both Shae and Arlene. Neither was in a position to give Eve much in the way of tips on how to be a teenage girl, but Eve was picking up little nuances from his female classmates.
After the nice dinner that Eve had cooked and served, Bill announced that he had a promotion and would be starting in Denver on March first. He realized that because of Denis' situation, the best way to deal with this would be for him to move to Denver, but for Arlene and Denis to remain in Bradford until graduation, so that the arrangements that had been in place for estrogen therapy, facial surgery and everything else wouldn't be disrupted.
He went on to day that Shae had done a lot for the Riley family in the past months, and that they had been thinking of taking Shae and Eve on a graduation trip to Disney World or something; with the schedule, that wasn't an option, but that they could do it over Christmas break instead. Shae and Eve quickly agreed that they would be happy with that.
Because of Bill's transfer, and the possibility that Shae's father Mike would also be transferred from Bradford, Shae and Eve realized that they would probably be on their own in school once they started; they were still hoping to be able to get into the same school and room together.
A few days later on Saturday, Eve had another electrolysis appointment. Since she wanted a padded bra and maybe a swimsuit, they decided to hit the Mishawaka mall, it being far enough away from Bradford to be safe from running into any classmates. They knew that occasionally they needed to be seen as Denis and Shae, and planned to go by the Briarwood Mall the next weekend and catch Dayna Berkshire performing.
While they were at the Mishawaka Mall, they ran into John and Paul who were checking out the bookstore; Paul and Eve discovered that they shared an interest in fantasy and science fiction. The guys were heading for the movie theatre, and invited Shae and Eve to go along with them for Dirty Dancing, both couples doing a bit of snuggling and kissing.
Eventually, after sub sandwiches and drinks, Shae mentioned that they had to be on the road. While they were still nervous about getting together more frequently, Shae did get their phone number so that they could call sometime when they could 'get away'. On the way home, Shae kidded Eve about the way she had taken the lead in kissing Paul, and suggested that once they get through fixing you there's not going to be any holding you back. I can just see it now: string bikinis, guys all over the place.
