Cheryl McClellan was born Paul McClellan. She has a brother, John who was very protective of him while they grew up in Woodstock, Indiana. Paul was short "slight in build, dark-haired like [his brother], and nervous appearing, acting very shy."GM12
Paul had his first kiss with Denis Riley (as Eve) on a Ferris Wheel at a county fair.GM12 The two also shared an interest in fantasy booksGM13 while Denis could related to the hard time Paul was having in school. Paul was Eve's date to his high school prom, a chance to taunt his enemies wondering "Wow, what's that dweeb doing with a babe like her?"GM15 As happy and proud as he was, there was something else, too. "You had the most gorgeous red prom dress! It was the prettiest thing I ever saw . . . you were so beautiful! I envied you so much because you could wear something like that, and I could only dream of being able to wear anything feminine at all, when I danced with you!"GM22
Paul knew in High School that he wanted to undergo Sex Reassignment Surgery, although he kept it a secret from his family. He worked at saving the money needed even while attending college. He was in his RLT when doing his post-grad work at Syracuse University when he met Eve again, while using his new name of Cheryl. The pair roomed together and she was very supportive that holiday break when he went to St Priscillasville Vermont for surgery.
When Cheryl met John's Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute roommate Chad, there was an instant connection. Both were studying applied mathematics and their discussions were involved. "I never saw two people take to each other like they did. Sex or gender didn't matter to either of them. Math did."GM24
After Chad received his Master's Degree at RPI, he started on his doctorate at Syracuse while Cheryl had another year to go. "Chad and Cheryl live in Maryland and work for a company doing some sort of mathematical research. The work is classified, and I don't want to speculate on exactly what it is they're supposed to be doing."GM24
In November 2001, Cheryl was in the Chicago area, teaching math at Northwestern University while Chad was doing it in a community college.PUTP24
