Summary

The campus visit at Southern Michigan University was much more positive than either of the others. The admissions counsellor was enthusiastic about Susan's German experience and recognised her Abitur score as very good. She was given a provisional acceptance so long as her transfer grades were good.

Henry had sent them a story that Gingrich had been convicted in Springfield and was facing hard time, although a sentence had yet to be announced.

One Friday afternoon Susan got a call at the Record-Herald office from Randy Clark. He asked about her college plans and invited her over to his house that evening to meet some people.

Susan was perplexed by the group that met her at Randy's house: Rachel Clark as hostess, Randy, Ryan Clark, Frank Matson and Myleigh Hartwell-Harris. She was surprised when they asked her to apply to the Donna Clark Foundation for a college grant, and that they mentioned four thousand dollars a semester.

She spent some time talking with them about Southern Michigan and about her time in Germany.
