Sarah Lackamp was a student at Hickory Run Methodist Seminary. She was Nanci Chladek's suitemate at Mrs Keller’s Place.

Sarah is the second main character in the book Hickory Run.

Born in Rwanda where she lived with her missionary parents until she was 11 years old. In 1994 ethnic fighting between Hutu and Tutsi forced the evacuation of missionaries and the Lackamp family barely escaped having been caught up in a massacre where Sarah witnessed killings and rapes of both living and dead women. HR19

This experience left Sarah with nightmares which she had recently come to accept as simply memories rather than living it again. For over a year after they returned to the States Sarah didn't speak and slowly through her schooling she developed a minimal ability to interact with others. When she started at Hickory Run was the first time she'd lived apart from her parents. HR19

She has "just turned twenty-two" in September 2005 when she meets Nanci DBR39

Initially Nanci got the impression of helicopter parents, who hovered over her and directed her every move.

Sarah felt abandoned by her parents when they returned to Rwanda over Christmas 2005 to investigate re-opening their mission HR5 and subsequently moved back to Rwanda in March 2006 to start again in a new location. HR11

Through Nanci's influence Sarah is pushed to try new things: wearing a bikini and sun-bathing for the first time, HR5 surfing, HR9 riding and then rowing a raft in the Grand Canyon, HR13 leading services and preaching. HR7

Sarah was married to Kevin Haynes on New Year's eve 2006 at Hillside Methodist Church by Nanci Chladek HR23

When Nanci told Sarah's father in May 2007 that Sarah was married, was referred to as Interim Pastor of Flagstaff John Wesley Fellowship, and worked as a swamper for Canyon Tours with the possibility of being promoted to boatman the following year, he questioned whether it really was his daughter they were talking about.
