Harold Lackamp was a missionary to Rwanda, Africa until ethnic violence forced evacuation in 1994.HR19
Back in the States he was appointed as temporary minister at a church in Huntington, West Virginia until such time as he was able to return to Rwanda, thinking it would only be a couple of years but turned out to be over 10 years.HR2
Married to Martha they have one child, Sarah, who lived her first 11 years in Africa and only left her parents' home in September 2005 to study at Hickory Run Methodist Seminary at age 22.DBR39
In December 2005 Harold and Martha get opportunity for an exploratory trip to Rwanda to see about re-opening their mission.HR5 They subsequently return in March 2006 to start again in a new locationHR11 and sarah feels they have abandoned her.
Wanting to push Sarah to be more independent of her parents they suggest she think about marrying their friend Abraham Bowman despite knowing she dislikes the man.HR2 They hoped this would make her develop the backbone to live without them when they returned to Rwanda.HR24
