Summary

Adam negotiated the purchase of Moonshadow and got it down $14,500 below asking price. He made sure Jake knew to charge him full price for his time as surveyor and for the work he'd do on Moonshadow over the winter.

Adam needed the outboard motor from Knick-Knack before moving the Moonshadow from Traverse City to Winchester Harbor . Amanda Lewis sailed with him to make the move so he wouldn't be solo for his first time on Moonshadow. They stopped overnight at St. James Harbor where Amanda had beer with her meal even though she wasn't 21 yet.

Adam decided to spend most of Fall at Winchester Harbor , sailing when he could and working on Moonshadow when not sailing. About once a week he returned to Detroit to take care of things at Caldwell-Deerfield. The first trip he also took the opportunity to get Knick-Knack onto the trailer and covered in tarps for the winter.

He was surprised when Carolyn Lewis visited one weekend. He took her sailing on Moonshadow, though nothing more because their closer relationship was secret from her family.

One evening Ron Lewis phoned from Jacksonville, Florida to tell Amanda that he'd bought a Pearson Triton 28 for in a bank repossession sale for 250 bucks. Jake asked Adam if he'd help out being deck-hand on Chinook until the end of the season so he could let Amanda head south to complete the paperwork and move the Triton to a different boatyard to work on it.

Adam's time on Chinook added a lot of experience of seamanship and boat handling which would benefit him on Moonshadow.

When the crane showed up in Winchester Harbor Jake, his father-in-law Nate Kunkle and Adam got the boats out of the water onto cradles or trailers, and lifted the mast out of Moonshadow. Moonshadow' was moved into the boat shed so they could work on it over the winter and the other boats were covered in tarps.

Jake left to have a look over the Rag Doll for Amanda, and Adam returned to his apartment wondering what he was going to do for the winter.
