Summary
Mark, Mike, Kirsten & Jackie talk about Jennifer Evachevski's performance. They are checking out the other costumes, and can't recognise John Pacobel's date. When Mike goes for more drinks he recognises her as Heather, who is already slurring her words. Mike chats with Linda about Tiffany and dog sledding. As he makes his way through the crowd he hears Don talking about a "retention pond out on 427" which piques his interest. It prompts him to ask Binky if she still owned the land there, where Kirsten had seen Jack Musgrave testing soil. Binky says that she thinks she has someone interested in it.
Mark and Mike are outside on the porch of the Commons for a breather. Ryan joins the pair.
Mike asks Ryan about the retention pond, but Ryan doesn't know any more than that the city got a big engineering bill, but Don wouldn't say much about it other than an alternative to the sewer separation project. Ryan is fed up with the situation and is thinking of standing down at the end of his term as mayor and moving out of the city limits. Mike cautions him that Binky is making notes that night.
Ryan asks Mike if he'd go on the Toivo expedition to report it for all those that have supported it. Ryan hasn't talked to Gil or the others yet, though Mark is supportive.
Ryan switches to talking about the dogs, and whether they would race to Warsaw and back for the Winter Festival, starting an argument between Mike & Mark about who has the better dogs.
Mike & Mark are badly hungover the next morning, Kirsten & Jackie are still asleep. They realise that whilst distracted by Heather Sanford doing a strip tease they've agreed with Ryan Clark to have a mini-Iditarod to Warsaw and back as one of the events for the Winter Festival.
This is the origin of The Warsaw Run dog race.
