Summary

Jack drove round to see the hill-climb and saw Frnchy's car stuck part-way up. He decided they'd got enough of a lead to get home.

Frenchy got Matt and Larry to push his car to get it moving down the hill. When it was moving he tried to turn round but the steep hill rolled the car. After he got out of the upside-down car they tried righting it but had to leave it and start walking - not knowing where they were or how to get back to town. Eventually Matt noticed the sky glow from the towns lights to the east so got a general direction.

Jack drove home and his parents saw everyone was upset. Jim was all for packing them straight off to the hunting cabin but Alan said they should call the cops and give them a chance to apply the personal protection order. All the families were present when Fred Piwowar arrived.

After hearing the tale Fred Piwowar drove out to the hill-climb and found Frenchy's wrecked car but no people.

Leo Jarwaulski passed the story on to Charlie Wexler in the morning, saying that Frenchy and his buddies were stil out there somewhere. That upset Charlie because it loused up a plan. He gave the people he'd called in breakfast at the Spearfish Lake Cafe as compensation for the waste of time. Fred Piwowar noticed three very tired people approaching the cafe.

Frenchy and his buddies were quickly arrested.
