Summary
Jake was busy all summer, partially because Barb was still spending much of her time with Marge, whose health was steadily sinking. Everything seemed to get done somehow.
At one point Jake covered for Nate on the Chinook III while Mike, Rachel's older brother, was in town for a couple weeks of leave from the Navy.
The saturday of the July fourth weekend was busy, as normal, and happened while Mike was still around, so he volunteered to help Wayne at the fuel dock as Jake was still covering for Nate.
The boat parade and fireworks show were pretty good, and for once Jake and Rachel were able to enjoy them, sitting in the chairs up on the flying bridge. Just as the parade was done, Lisa showed up. Again. And with Greg. They ended up bumming a ride with Jake and Rachel on the next days fishing charter - Lisa's obvious intent to talk with Jake, Greg to get an exposure to lake fishing.
At the end of the day they docked and over the next two or three hours they just sat in the cockpit and talked. Jake and Rachel told boating stories, and finally it was dark enough for the fireworks. When the finale was over, Rachel went back to her house, and Jake walked Lisa and Greg back to his boat. Jake was really surprised that the subject of Brittany had never come up once.
But it did come up the next day, out on the lake. Lisa commented that she hadn't seen her since the trip on Memorial Day, and if she’s been home, her folks haven’t said so. Jake offered that they'd had a long talk, and we decided that we’d just grown too far apart, and that our interests didn’t coincide like they used to. Lisa said that on the trip back south that she had connected with a guy named Adam, and he had taken her home.
