Spring Trevetheck was the daughter of Mike and Rowan Trevetheck, residents of Spearfish Lake. She has two younger sisters Summer and Autumn. "By themselves, none were totally uncommon names, although when you stopped and thought about it three sisters with those names implied that their parents had to be just a little weird."^BITH1

Spring was an active participant of her family's practice in the Old Ways religion, including attendance at her sister's Venus Rite.^BITH10

During the summer of 2008, Spring was going out with Wyatt Curtis, with whom she played World of Warcraft.^SK28 The couple spent time with Cody and Janice Lufkin, including witnessing the fight Cody had with Allen Untermeyer and Dick Hamilton.^SK34

After graduating from Spearfish Lake High School, Spring attended Michigan State University.^BITH9 She had considered Southern Michigan University, but she'd heard "that they don’t have much in student aid", apparently an important consideration. ^SK34

According to Summer, Spring "likes to hang around renaissance faires".^BITH30 When Spring asked her mother about going with Wyatt "to the renaissance faire down near Milwaukee and she just about blew her top at the idea."^SK34

During the summer of 2010, Spring worked in Camden, staying with her cousin, Sharon Nancarrow.^BITH33
