Spearfish Lake State Savings Bank

Garth Matson had gone to work with the Spearfish County Bank in 1928. After World War II, when his grandfather Caleb Matson had died, Garth took over the helm of the Spearfish Lake State Savings Bank – there had been a complicated merger and renaming following the national bank crisis in 1933.^AF24

In 1958 Frank Matson graduated high school and was going to college^AF15 then was headed for the Spearfish Lake State Savings Bank^AF26. By 1968 he was working there with his father, Garth.^AF15

Bud Ellsberg had financing from Spearfish Lake State Savings Bank to rebuild the Spearfish Lake Super Market after it had burned down in 1968^AF15. The bank again provided financing enabling C&SL railroad to fix up the Kremmling Branch.^SX24
