Summary

Josh sets off, remembering to wave to Jim Horton as he goes past the house. He catches up to Tiffany and goes past, not realizing that Tiffany has problems. George as lead dog is slacking off, slowing the team down.

Tiffany revises her planned stop, but then has to pull off the track when she notices George limping. He's cut his foot, so he has to ride the rest of the race.

Tiffany has a break for the dogs, and is passed by Greg & Phil. She sets off with Dancer in the lead, but he's never been solo lead before and so is slower than Tiffany wants, so she rigs a double lead with Dasher.

Phil and Greg have had a break a bit further on, and decide to bootie all their dogs. Since Greg is the more experienced, he gets away first, and Phil is passed by Tiffany before he can set off, but it isn't long before he catches up with her. Tiffany pulls to one side to let Phil past, and then gets her dogs to follow Phil.

Josh has an AM radio with him, listening to the Spearfish Lake station, which announces when teams pass the Turtle Hill crossing, he hears his name announced, but is surprised by how long it is before the next name is heard.

Tiffany & Phil have a break, although they still don't know how far behind Greg Mears they are. Tiffany is frustrated that she doesn't have another dog trained to take over from George. When they set off again, it proves that they are only just behind Greg who had stopped only a little further on.

Josh finally hears the radio announce Greg, Phil and Tiffany, and is surprised to find that he'd a 14 minute lead, and that Tiffany was in fourth place. Phil is very slowly reeling Greg in, since it was unknown how his lead dog would cope with 100 miles, being normally treated as a sprint dog.

Tiffany is frustrated, then makes another mistake so that her dogs start off the trail to head for home; by the time she's back on the course Fred Linder has overtaken her.

Josh comes in first, just under 12 hours. Ryan Clark gets to commentate on the race for second place as Phil finally unleashes Switchstand to overtake Greg Mears and take second place. Tiffany loses more distance on Fred, then manages to stabilize the situation, but is unable to make any distance up and comes in fifth.
