Summary
After a couple of weeks of snowboarding, with a side trip to San Francisco for some sightseeing and another side trip to Yosemite, Scooter, Crystal, and Michelle head back to Flagstaff just in time for Al's Christmas party. Because of the people who couldn't be there, it was somewhat muted compared to the previous year.
Two days later, Al, Karin, Crystal, and Scooter headed down to Phoenix and were dropped at the airport by Jon and Tanisha. When they arrived at Buddah and Giselle's, they were surprised that not only Myleigh, but also Randy and Nicole were already there. Myleigh had been surprised earlier that day to see Trey (one of her students) arrive, and observed "Here we are but fellow surfers together upon the shore."
Buddha, Giselle, Randy, and Nicole all plan to be at the Canyon wedding, although it will be difficult for Nicole to take the time from her classroom.
Al asks Trey if he would be interested in becoming a swamper; he says very much so, however has a possible prior commitment with an internship and will let Al know as soon as he knows, probably in a week or two.
On New Year's eve, Randy and Nicole will have to leave the next day, but, since this is their anniversary, the stories of the spiked punch, and the handcuffs come up again. Randy has them in his duffel, and puts them on Nicole to carry on the tradition. "Randy, you're a lucky man," Buddha laughed. "Most wives in this world get upset if you forget your anniversary. You're going to have Nicole wishing you would."
What follows is a long discussion of schedule conflicts ending with Nicole saying, "Damn it, he needs to get out and do something where I can be envious of him." Crystal suggests that he come sailing with them in the Bahamas, but Randy observes that it wouldn't do for it to become known in Spearfish Lake that he - a married man - had been on a vacation sailing with three beautiful single women.
