Pepper Ranch
The Pepper Ranch was 800 acresCR14 near Lexington,CR6 a few miles from Conestoga Methodist ChurchCR12 and some 24 miles from Tyler.CR14 The nearest neighbors were Art and Shirley Gamble.CR12
The buildings were in fair shape, but the house needed cleaning. The animals had been sold off a year or two previous, when Elmer Pepper could no longer care for them. The front door of the house was locked and the back door unlocked. There were no keys.CR9
The old single-story ranch house looked shabby... the place seemed abandoned when Gerald Pepper and Leah first got there. The house was unkempt with things lying around as if they'd been put down and not put away. Having been shut up for a week it smelled bad.CR11
Gerald and Leah stayed at the ranch and slowly cleaned the house up so they could live there for the few months it would take for probate to be finalised on Elmer Pepper's estate.
