Daniel Dan EvachevskiSQ27 is father to Gil Evachevski.

Gil's mother is only mentioned as Bernice ParkerSQ43 who died soon after his birth. In The West Turtle Lake Club Gil's mother is named as the late Sarah Evachevski.WTLC12

Daniel later remarried. The fact that Mary wasn't Gil's birth mother was not talked much about among the grandchildren. Any other children by Daniel and Mary aren't mentioned at all.

Dan has five grandchildren by Gil and Carrie Matson: Jennifer, Garth (named for his unit commander), Brandy, Tara and Daniel Clark Evachevski. He was still active in the community in 1981.

In the 1930s Daniel joined the Spearfish Lake National Guard Unit, "D" Battery, 156th Artillery under Colonel Garth Matson. The unit was called in 1940 and served in Italy, 1943 to 1945.

Both before and after the war, Daniel worked at the Clark Plywood plant in Spearfish Lake. He told his grandchildren "he never would have made it through the Depression without what Wayne did," crediting Wayne Clark for his employment in those tough times.HC4 He was an employee stock holder in Clark Plywood who planned to vote his stock with Brent Clark after Wayne's death.WTLC46 He retired from Clark Plywood in November 1975.WTLC29

In 1951 Daniel was elected to the Spearfish Lake Area Schools Board.WTLC28

Daniel worked with Brent Clark and Joe Paulsen building wooden lung respirators in August 1955 when polio infected children in Spearfish Lake.FK14 They made three wooden lungs, all of which were needed by patients with polio that summer.FK20

Daniel was a founder member of the AmVets Association in Spearfish Lake. The Post was mostly WW1 vets while AmVets was the preferred place of D Battery veterans. He served as membership chairman in 1981, becoming vice commander the following year.

Daniel has died by February 2001.SQ27
