Birdwatcher Hill was a low hill in the pine barrens about four miles east of Turtle Hill and two or three miles north of the railroad grade.BHF1 It was something like twenty miles north-east of Spearfish Lake.BHF17
Access from County Road 919 was on an old logging trail, which didn't show on maps, about six miles north of Shaundessy's Bait Shop.
Jack Erikson and Vixen Hvalchek drove up the un-named hill when Stas alerted him and they started smelling smoke. They saw a fire about quarter of a mile off.BHF1
The hill was named by Hoselton fire chief Clint Bork when he set up his command post there.BHF8
