Summary
Brenda Hodunk is the newly appointed junior reporter for the Spearfish Lake Record-Herald newspaper. She has a chip on her shoulder about having to take a job with a small town weekly, but then she has a chip on her shoulder about a lot of things.
She has just started jogging in order to lose weight, when she sees another jogger, who appears to be wearing handcuffs. When she mentions this to the others at the office, she is surprised to learn that Carole Carter had started wearing them several years ago as an experiment and has just never taken them off.
