Summary

Barb teases Jake about Annette when he walks into the kitchen the next morning, then sends him off to go crew with Nate on the Chinook III. Rachel joins them - it's finals week at school, and they're optional if you have straight "A" grades - and ends up being the pilot, and Jake a deckhand that learns about deep-lake fishing.

Rachel spots a school of fish at 70 feet (21.3 meters) down, Nate and Jake rig the lines. Twenty minutes later they had two trophy-size Chinook in the boat. By lunch time they had caught their limit.

More importantly, Jake learns just how much he needs to learn about crewing a fishing boat. Nate offers ...if you want to keep doing this some, I’ll talk with Barb to see if I can get you free a little more often.

Memorial Day was a typical busy three-day-weekend. Jake spends most of his time at the fuel dock and observes that the swimsuits on the teen-aged girls can be quite skimpy, at times too skimpy. Susie commented I think some girls at that age have some idea of the power of their sexuality, but haven’t quite managed to get their minds around the pitfalls.

Later that day one fuel dock customer turns out to have Jake's sister Lisa as a passenger. As the diesel tank was filled she confronts him about Brittany and again nothing was resolved. Jake apologizes to the boat owner about airing the family dirty laundry. As the boat pulled out Lisa was still convinced that Brittany could have done nothing wrong, and that the breakup was all Jakes fault. Unfortunately they were going to tie up at a slip in the harbor and Jake half-expects Lisa to hike back down to the fuel dock and continue the argument.
