Squirt Chenowith was a little guy about five feet tall from New Jersey. He was rejected by the draft because of his size, so instead of going to Korea he joined MMSA in spring 1951.

He had started racing, illegally, at age fifteen.

He left to wrench for his brother, Runt, trying to qualify for the Indianapolis 500. When Runt qualified Squirt asked MMSA to be the pit crew.

When Squirt left MMSA his car was down three sixteenths on the carburettor restrictor plates, that’s how much better a driver that Squirt was over the rest of us.^BR1-17

Squirt tried to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 in 1952^BR1-23 and drove his brother's old car in 1953 when he qualified 24th and finished 11th.^BR1-27 He qualified again in 1954 but had to retire early.^BR1-38 He qualified in 1955 but crashed during practice and in 1956 he crashed out early in the race.^BR2-18

He drove from New Jersey to Livonia for the reunion in December 1964.^BR2-19
