Runt Chenowith was several years older than his brother Squirt. My folks thought I was going to be the runt of the litter until Squirt came along, so I got stuck with the name.”
He had bought a Kurtis Kraft Offy Indy Car cheap. With Squirt's support he qualified 19th for the Indianapolis 500 and asked the MMSA guys to be his pit crew. Despite his magneto failing so the car wouldn't run on the 183rd lap he ended up twelfth.BR1-17
He ran the Indy 500 for a number of years, sometimes with a pit crew from the MMSA and sometimes from Herb Kralick Ford.
