Summary
Josh arrives at the C&SL Railroad Station to find that he's been put in charge of a train with his friend Danny as brakeman. Bud tells him that Diane is out because of her pregnancy, so Bruce is doing her work at Lordston Northern. Josh & Danny take the train out, both aware of the change in status as Josh gives Danny his orders. They think back to their double date with Amy & Marsha Ashtenfelter when they rendered first aid to Ed & Jill Sloat. Amy is no longer friends with Josh as he decided against going to college at Western State like the other three, but would be a railroader instead. Danny has become engaged to Marsha, though they will wait until after graduation to marry. Danny is grateful to be earning money whilst the Ashtenfelter girls are in Europe, as he doesn't want to rely on his sister Jennifer. Danny and Josh talk about his dogs. Josh's mother thinks they are all Mark's, while most people think Josh has 14, including the 4 that belong to Tiffany. Josh and Tiffany spend a lot of time training the dogs, although there has been trouble made by Kathy Webb about Tiffany taking the dogs to school. Josh talks through his need for better dogs. The run goes well, and Josh is excited to talk about it with his father, Walt, when he gets back.
