Summary
As they leave Lee's Ferry Scooter tells her raft passengers about John Doyle Lee, a Mormon assassin with nineteen wives who founded the Ferry back in the 1870s, and on the trip down the river notices how much rowing Randy is doing on Crystal's raft. Scooter also thinks that Al is looking better as she sees him talking to Karin.
Scooter knows that Crystal is very upset with her mother, but points out how she never had a chance to put things right with her own mother, so Crystal should give Karin a chance (compare Chapter 68 and Chapter 69 of Dawnwalker ).
They camp at their normal first night spot, the beach below Badger Rapids, and Crystal breaks out her guitar. She has Randy play Edmund Fitzgerald and Dawnwalker and tells her story of the Alaskan fishing boat, Queen Charlotte Strait and the God's Pocket harbor. She draws a safety lesson out of each one.
The chapter ends at the morning of day two, with Crystal telling Randy that he will be rowing some more, including at least some of the easier rapids... but not House Rock.
