Characters
Summary
Carnie talked to Mel about his life in the carnivals before he joined the army and was glad of the change. In carnivals it was every man for himself, now he was a trusted part of a team which he trusted. They agreed the racing would come to an end for each of them at some time but they weren't in a hurry for it to happen.
A day in Indianna Chck and Hattie announced they were going to get married that day. Hattie was pregnant and they didn't want the child to be illegitimate.
As the fair season ended they took a swing to the Deep South without a lot of success.
At Chattanooga, Tennessee they had an end of season dinner where Frank gave bonuses based on when the drivers joined. He also announced the championship winners as the ones who had won most money - third Mel Austin, second Rocky Turnupseed, first Hoss Korodan with additional bonusses
