New York is a state in the Northeast USA.
For the city, see New York City.
There are several schools located in New York State that SLT characters attended:
- Cornell University is located in western New York and where Myleigh Harris and Paula Ackerman were grad students while earning master's degrees.
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is in upstate New York, near the state capital of Albany. It is where John McClellan and his roomate Chad attended for their master's degrees.
- Syracuse University is in central New York state. Both Eve Riley and Paul McClellan earned their master's degrees there.
Other locations in the state that appear in the SLT universe include:
- General Hardware had a regional center in Endicott, in south central New York, which included a marketing department where Sue Riley worked.
- Mark Gravengood and Jackie Archer flew through the state in Rocinante. "After the summer that they had spent flying around in the Rockies and the Sierras and the Cascades, the mountains of New York and Pennsylvania and Vermont seemed hardly more than hills to look down on."ROC25
- The Appalachian Trail passes through the state while the North Country Trail has one end in the state with the other end in North Dakota. The NCT passes Spearfish Lake on the way.
