Summary

Kayla tuned out the before dinner conversation when it turned to her mum's classmates she didn't know. She got a notepad to write down the names Dave and Shae had mentioned so she could find out more about them later. When the guests had left she found brief articles about them in the family's encyclopedia.

The following day Kayla went to the city library after school. She got biographies of Martin Luther King and Mahatma Ghandi written for young adults. When she returned them and asked about Thoreau and Walesa Mrs Hephner gave her a copy of Thoreau's Walden from the used book sale warning her that it would be a tough read.

The Bacon family took Kayla to a 10k race in Woodstock, Indiana. Hers and Rachel's first race of that distance. They started a bit fast and were the leading women for about 7k and finished 5th and 6th. Mr Bacon talked to them about pacing themselves and possibly doing longer races up to half marathons.

A few days later Kayla was visiting when Rachel suggested they go for a run in the woods. She led them to a swimming hole and suggested they take a dip to cool off. Kayla commented on the lack of swimsuits saying “but I don’t need one if you don’t.” After swimming they lay out in the sun still nude and talking about being nude. Rachel recognised Kayla's account of getting permission to be nude at home and revealed that she was Airclad and Allison's Sanctuary.
