Summary
Jennlynn and Jeff land the Airbus perfectly with Col. Hadley talking them all the way through the landing and then the shutdown checklist. Jennlynn warns Jeff about her reputation, but Jeff loyally states he'll stand by her. Mallory is also warned, but she has little to lose and much more to gain from any publicity. The news filters through the base and the reporters pick up wind.
Will competently keeps the media circus in control, feeding the reporters what they need and keeping them occupied while things backstage are organized, including an aide sent to fetch Class A uniforms for himself and the General.
Barbara Bishop is the reporter that tries to dig up and push the dirt, but Jennlynn is more than ready for the task of explanation:
Barbara: ""Why would you do such a thing? It seems incredible!"
Jennlynn: "For the same reason some people become sensationalistic, dirtbag reporters, namely money."
It probably made no difference to how the rest of the press conference went, but Jennlynn was at something less than her best here. She has had a rather difficult day so far, after all. And it was established a few chapters back that she has gone longer than usual without sex and so her temper would be on a short fuse anyway.
