Summary

In the general chat before the start of the council meeting, Emily shared her enjoyment of her motorcycle trip, only to have the city manager remark with a sneer. Daugherty broke in before anything else could be said and started the meeting. Emily remained passive, despite this not being the first time Levitsky made personal remarks.

After the meeting, Lloyd Weber remarked how Levitsky, with Driscoll's encouragement, looked down on most council members. The newsman had seen such attitudes in the past and told Emily she would probably outlast this one, but maybe not without a reminder that he was employed by them, not the other way around.

Weber then asks for Emily's help in filling in part-time at the Courier to learn enough of the business to allow him his first vacation in years. They make plans for her to spend a few hours each week after school restarts.

Instead of riding her Sportster directly home, she rides around town for fun. She spies an abandoned house that Levitsky couldn't be bothered to do anything about, despite council direction. She also is surprised to see Vickey jogging. They schedule a ride the next evening, but also note they need to talk about Halloween plans. Resuming her ride, Vicky's mind considers party locations, knowing she's seen something that would make a great Halloween party spot.
