Summary
Nanci reflects on the changes over a week's experience in the Canyon. She's become comfortable with the outdoors and surprised herself with her own willingness to pitch in. She's even had some fun and laughs plus serious regrets over her failure at college. Even having to care for the groovers hasn't been as bad as some jobs from her past.
For the first time Nanci rides with someone besides Crystal. Kevin, the boatman, lets Nanci row some on flats. Josh and Tiffany have experience running dogsled trips and can relate to much of Kevin's experience.
Elves' Chasm is worthy of exploration, although Nanci, Jon and Tanisha decline to hike past the waterfall. Nanci heads back for a drink and is reminded of one of the few things she dislikes, the lack of privacy. Kevin turns his back while she uses the river before finding out what he's been reading. He's been doing a little Bible study and it provides a prolonged topic for the two.
When Crystal finally returns to the boats, she first thinks Nanci has returned to her flirting ways, but their discussion of sin and salvation gives her second thoughts.
